Teapot - White - Katsufumi Baba

Description

White, Japanese ceramic teapot with pouring spout and teak handle. The handle has been hand carved and shaped for easy pouring. Teak is a relatively water-resistant wood used also in ship building. Both the pot and the handle are handcrafted by Katsufumi Baba.

Inside there is a strainer so you can brew leaves without pouring them into the cup. Removable lid has a hand-pinched knob for easy removal.

Pot (not including lid or handle) is 3.5" wide x 3" tall. Handle is 3" long.

Holds 1.5 cups

Handmade in Japan

About the Maker

Katsufumi Baba is a Japanese potter based in Fukuoka. Fascinated by pottery since he was a child, Katsufumi studied law, and after graduating decided to pursue his interest in ceramics. In 1995 he traveled to France, studying with European potters and traveling around Europe for two years. Returning to Japan in 1997, he studied Japanese pottery at the Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute in Shiga. He studied throwing techniques for a year and then worked for a local pottery studio for four years.

In 2003, Katsufumi established his own studio in Fukuoka. As an artist, he is interested in creating works of functional beauty, household items that last a lifetime and can be passed on to the next generation.
