KOROMIKO is an online design store founded by Tracey George, a New Zealander now living in Dallas, Texas. Started from the simple idea to support and promote independent designers producing handcrafted, authentically sustainable goods.
We look for high-quality craftsmanship, durability, simplicity of function and design aesthetic in the goods we source. We showcase designers and makers using traditional craft methods in inspiring ways to create objects for everyday use, that connect us to each other, and bring beauty into our homes.
We believe good design and the desire for beautiful objects should not be at the expense of people or the environment. We support ethical fair trade practices with transparency in origin, maker and materials used.
From beginning to end we are conscious of our environmental impact. Our product selection takes into consideration the sustainability of the materials used, the production process, how easily the product can be recycled in the future, as well as the intended function and use of the item. Our packaging is either re-used, recyclable, compostable or made from post-consumer recycled material.
Each year we give back at least 1% of sales to an organization that supports arts in the community. Currently we are supporting Aid to Artisans. Aid to Artisans creates opportunities for low-income artisans around the world to build profitable businesses inspired by handmade traditions. They offer access to new markets, business training, eco-effective processes and design innovation through a network of partners to promote sustainable growth and community well-being.
We believe in slow-design, mindful purchases and less consumption; in being connected to each other and the stories behind the goods we choose for our homes.
