Gaia by Tracey George Posted on November 11, '13
GAIA zipper pouches, napkins and bracelets are handmade with care by women in need in the Dallas, TX area, using vintage, repurposed, or sustainable materials.

Founded by Paula Minnis in 2009, GAIA's mission is to empower marginalized women through employment, encouragement, and dedication to their long-term success in the local community. The name “GAIA” - meaning “Goddess of the Earth” - was chosen as a way to honor all women, from the ones who make GAIA products to the ones who purchase or receive them.

Initially, Paula's volunteer work led her to the IRC, where she mentored Burmese refugee and mother of two, Catherin, whose story of struggle and oppression inspired Paula to create a sustainable, socially responsible business model in which women could gain transferable skills to create one-of-a-kind pieces for a living wage.

Through a living wage and continued training & development, Gaia's mission is to lead women to financial independence and self-sufficiency.  GAIA is a means through which we can all positively affect the lives of those in need in our own community.
